TMSDI at High Performing International Teams conference

TMS co-author, Dr Dick McCann, is to be one of the keynote speakers at this year's High Performing International Teams Conference, to be held at York University, UK on 17-18 September 2009.

'High-performance teamwork is difficult to maintain and inherently unstable. As such, the parameters of human interaction have to be constantly tweaked to cater for the vicissitudes of organisational, national and international markets. I will present a framework that teams can use to correct any potential teamwork imbalance and maintain performance at an optimal level over the long term.'

For more information, contact the organisers, York Associates, on +44(0)1904 624246 or visit www.york-associates.co.uk.

Unlocking the power of teamwork for national education

TMSDI's Mark Gilroy spoke about Unlocking the Power of Teamwork at the national conference of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education held earlier this year in Glasgow. Putting into action some of the theories around high performance teamworking, Mark asked delegates to carry out a practical exercise, leading to interesting discussion on approaches to problem solving, valuing diversity, sharing resources, providing different types of support, as well as debate on the idea that teamwork is part of the journey, and not the destination.

Sessions included: Martin Chambers and Jayne Mallon on how they are integrating team members from the three organisations working on Network Rail's new £600m redevelopment of Birmingham's New Street Station; David Durkin on improving sales performance through teamwork at Barclays; John Sutherland on profiling for senior management team due diligence and Sue O'Boyle on coaching, the Team Management Profile and an appreciative enquiry approach. HRD 2009

There were even more visitors to the TMSDI stand this year, at what proved to be a lively and busy exhibition at HRD 2009.

Over 200 people took up the opportunity to receive a complimentary Team Management Profile and experience the Margerison-McCann Team Management Systems approach for themselves. Conversations with visitors underlined the critical importance of building and sustaining effective teams and using coaching to help individuals through the challenges of managing in a downturn.

Rob Lewis, polar explorer and director of Mission Performance, led a packed taster session entitled Serious Fun: shaping and executing a high impact ‘real life’ team development journey.

He outlined how he has used the Margerison-McCann Profiles to open up discussion and tackle the real issues that face people working in extreme situations, where good teamwork is vital to success.

You can contact Rob, through our Media Centre.
